Here's the famous "Akron Arlen" Vanke's beautiful Plymouth Duster at speed. The factory backed driver was a perennial threat in the 60's and 70's Pro Stock wars. This photograph was captured at the 1970 NHRA Summer Nationals at Indianapolis, Indiana. The Photograph is perfectly panned (car extremely sharp, background blurred) and we see Vanke's immaculate Pro Stocker pulling hard at the top end of second gear . . . on another 9 second pass.

#195: 1973 P/S: Akron Arlen Vanke's Plymouth At Speed
This one was captured at Dragway 42 (West Salem, Ohio) in June, 1973. This low resolution Net image doesn't do the print justice. The beautiful Plymouth is extremely sharp, background very blurred. Here we see Akron Arlen, up on the wheel and a few feet from the finish line approaching 160 MPH. Notice the wind trying to rip the hood and the bumper off. Click on the image for an enlargement.

This photograph was captured at Thompson Drag Raceway (Thompson, Ohio) on April 15, 1973. The opening day match race featured "Fast Eddie" Schartman verses "Akron Arlen" Vanke. Here we see the immaculate Pro Stocker as it leaves the line, wheels up, on its second pass through the rosin.

This one was captured at Dragway 42 (West Salem, Ohio) on June 24, 1973, when Dragway 42 hosted a special race featuring a large field of top name Pro Stockers. Here we see Arlen on another quick pass, down in the slicks, front wheels in the air. See the detail image below.
Here's Arlen, really up on the wheel. In 1973, driving a nine second 4 speed Pro Stocker was an intense and very busy experience.
