#110. 1971 F/C: The Ramchargers - Loose Burnout
This image captured at Thompson Drag Raceway on April 25, 1971.The perfectly framed photograph shows the loose car, just as the driver (Leroy Goldstein) corrects for the slide and eases out of the throttle. At this point in Drag Racing history, aerodynamics were becoming a huge factor and as a result, Funny Cars were beginning to look even funnier. In this image, the back half of the Dodge Challenger appears to retain its stock lines but the front half is definitely sectioned, creating the classic wedge shape. Also, notice the relatively large front air dam and the aluminum spoilers attached to the rear deck. The touring Ramchargers team was a constant threat and laid down big numbers all over the country.
#212. 1971 F/C: The Ramchargers - Burnout
Here we see Leroy Goldstein driving the famous Dodge Funny Car at the beginning of another long burnout (second round). The heavy overcast didn't hurt this low angle image. It's is extremely sharp with great highlight and shadow detail.
#304. 1972: F/C: Ramchargers - Burnout
This image was created at the 1972 IHRA Summer Nationals held at Dragway 42 (West Salem, Ohio) on August 20, 1972. Clare Sanders drove this car through a very impressive field to win the 1972 IHRA Summer Nationals with consistent speeds approaching 230 MPH (huge numbers for the time).
#220. 1972: The Winning Ramchargers Team with Linda Vaughn
Here we see Linda Vaughn surrounded by the winning Ramchargers Team. It was created at the 1972 IHRA Summer Nationals held at Dragway 42 (West Salem, Ohio) on August 20, 1972. This net image can't do this print justice (extremely sharp). Linda Vaughn is sandwiched between the Ramchargers team and she looks like she likes it!.
#175. 1973 F/C: The "Ramchargers" Dodge - Burnout
Here's one captured at Dragway 42 (West Salem, Ohio) in July 1973. Here we see Clare Sanders piling up the smoke on another long Ramchargers burnout. In 1973, aerodynamics and down force were becoming more and more important. Compare this 1973 car to the 1972 version seen above. Notice the larger front air dam and the taller and steeper spoilers attached to the rear deck. Also this version was much lower. This was way before the days of pop-up roof hatches and closed side windows.
